Electrical Interactions Simulator - May 2021

A research project on charged particles simulation

DESCRIPTION

As part of the fourth year of our work-study program, we were required to carry out a research project. We were a team of four students, I have not asked for their permission to cite them so their names are redacted in the following document.

We were tasked with designing a software application for simulating the electrical interactions of isolated charges.
The objective was to numerically calculate the electrical interactions between several charged particles in order to determine the associated physical quantities.
Ultimately, this program is intended to help illustrate concepts taught in electromagnetism courses.

This project was divided into three parts. First, we had to establish the state of the art regarding existing simulation methods and their implementation.
We then had to validate the selected physical model by comparing it with known theoretical results.
Finally, we had to develop the software that would constitute the final deliverable of the project.

This document provides a summary of our literature research on the various simulation methods, as well as Verlet integration methods. Following this, an analysis of the subject is presented, along with a non-exhaustive list of improvements and modifications to be made to the initial project specifications. The document concludes with a presentation of our future prospects and the potential challenges associated with them.
