JK, the firmware actually is useful, it gives audio cues for finding the frequecy that a FM Rx uses when you’re seeking for it.

And yes, the transistor has been offloaded to an external heatsink (the 3 wires in the top left corner).
Also, notice the solder flake on the top left part of the board, this was removed, it was only there because the board was inside a box of old projects and not attached to the board.
